Service Description

This course focuses on protection systems design and studies for large-scale transmission-level renewable power plants such as wind farms, solar farms, and BESS yards, emphasizing the impact of inverter-based resources (IBRs) on protection strategies, requirements, and guidelines in North America. Following areas of IBR protection as well as the challenges will be covered during this course: 1. Impact of IBRs on distance protection a. Impact on different implementations of distance element, including apparent impedance, phase-comparator, and RMD methods b. New distance protection methods compatible with IBRs c. Setting up distance element for improved performance 2. Impact of IBRs on faulty phase selection a. Impact on different phase-selection methods b. New phase-selection methods compatible with IBRs c. Selecting the proper phase-selection element for improved performance 3. Impact of IBRs on directional elements a. Impact on different directional elements, including phase, negative-sequence, and zero-sequence directional elements b. Selecting the proper directional element for improved performance 4. Impact of IBRs on power swing blocking protection Additional notes: • All participants will receive digital course materials, including reference guides and toolkits. • The service fee is tax-included. • Upon completing this course, you will earn the Electromentors' badge and receive a certificate of completion. • Electromentors is an approved provider of IEEE CEU/PDH Certificates. • All purchases at Electromentors are final, and we kindly ask that you review your selections carefully before completing your order.
